Taking a look at Temasek's bid to privatise SMRT
David Gerald For The Straits Times Published 10 hours ago Of interest is Temasek's decision to propose a scheme of arrangement, rather than a general offer, to buy out SMRT Singapore's stock market is witnessing an interesting trend. A number of high-profile companies have either delisted, or announced their intention to do so. However, no other company's proposed privatisation has generated as much interest as that of SMRT. First, it is hard to find another publicly listed company that affects the lives of millions of Singaporeans on a daily basis. Second, the fact that Temasek Holdings is proposing to fully acquire SMRT adds another dimension to the interest level. But the aspect that has been discussed the most among shareholders is the decision to undertake the proposed privatisation via a scheme of arrangement rather than a general offer. Over the past few weeks, the Securities Investors Association (Singapore), or SIAS, has received enquiries from shareholders regarding the offer. Why a scheme of arrangement and not a general offer? There are various differences between these two. To see how these differences impact SMRT's proposed privatisation, it is important to understand Temasek's intentions. Temasek, which is already SMRT's majority shareholder, has stated that it is not looking to simply increase its shareholding further. Its desired goal is to take SMRT private and delist it. A scheme of arrangement is much better suited for that than a general offer. continue reading here : http://www.straitstimes.com/business...privatise-smrt Really who would want to invest in a company that is full of problems ? ![]()

SMRT submits bid for Bandung public rail project
Posted 26 Sep 2016 08:31 Updated 26 Sep 2016 11:49 SINGAPORE: Public transport operator SMRT, in consortium with Indonesian engineering firm T-Files Indonesia, has submitted a formal bid for the construction of a public rail project in Bandung, Indonesia, it said on Monday (Sep 26). In a Singapore Exchange (SGX) filing, SMRT said the bid for the "Framework of Investment Construction of Corridor 1 Rail-Based Public Transportation and its Supporting Facilities in Bandung City" was submitted on Sep 9, the same date the tender closed. The company said the award of the tender would be subject to agreement on the terms of the project, and that it had not received any notification on the outcome of the tender as of the date of the announcement. No agreement had been reached on any of the terms with regard to the construction and implementation of the project, SMRT added. If the tender is awarded to the consortium, SMRT said it does not expect this development to have a material impact on its net tangible assets per share or earnings per share for the current financial year. Local media outlets in Indonesia have reported that SMRT is in talks for the construction of the planned Light Rail Transport (LRT) in Bandung City, starting with Corridor 1 - a 10.15-kilometre route from Babakan Siliwangi to Leuwipanjang. continue reading here : http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...t/3155920.html Sure or not SMRT should just concentrate on solving its own current problems . SMRT IS NOT capable of running another rail network service .

Coming soon: Nursing rooms at bus interchanges, MRT stations
Published: 12:35 PM, September 26, 2016 Updated: 12:56 PM, September 26, 2016 SINGAPORE — All new and upcoming bus interchanges and integrated transport hubs will have a standalone nursing room with diaper changing amenities and a wash basin, while rail lines are set to have dual speed escalators. These are some of the new features to be introduced to cater to commuters’ various needs, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Monday (Sept 26), adding that it has studied the recommendations in the Public Transport Council’s Advisory Report released on Aug 1. The bus interchanges and integrated transport hubs that will have a nursing room include those at Bukit Panjang, Outram, Sengkang, Shenton Way and Tampines. Existing bus interchanges developed from 2014, such as those at Bedok, Changi Business Park, Joo Koon, Woodlands and Yishun, already have nursing rooms. All MRT stations along the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) and Circle Line 6 will also have family-friendly washrooms that have a diaper changing station, child-size toilet seat and barrier-free facilities, alongside the main toilets in the unpaid area. In the paid areas of interchange stations, there will be a nursing room and barrier-free toilet. Meanwhile, the dual speed escalators and travellators at MRT stations are meant to meet the needs of children and the elderly. Escalators will be operated at 0.75m/s during peak hours and 0.50m/s during off-peak hours. continue reading here : http://www.todayonline.com/singapore...s-mrt-stations

Late start for Bukit Panjang LRT on Wednesday morning due to track fault causing damage to trains
Published 2 hours ago Updated 3 min ago SINGAPORE - Train service on the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) on Wednesday (Sept 28) morning started more than an hour later than scheduled due to a track fault that damaged 15 trains on Tuesday evening. Operator SMRT first tweeted at 5.33am that commuters could expect a 30-minute delay due to the fault. It added that free regular bus and bridging bus services had been made available. It was only at 6.40am that SMRT announced that train service had commenced. In an update on its Facebook page at 6.50am, SMRT said that the BPLRT would only be running six trains - half the usual number - during morning peak on Wednesday due to a track fault on Tuesday evening that had damaged the current collector devices on 15 trains. "Free bus and bus bridging services are now serving commuters along the BPLRT route. Additional SMRT staff have also been deployed along affected stops to assist passengers," said the Facebook post. continue reading here : http://www.straitstimes.com/singapor...to-power-fault Well done SMRT on yet another service delivery breakdown . ![]()

Bukit Panjang LRT temporarily suspended as engineers carry out urgent inspections
Published 9 hours ago Updated 24 min ago Zhaki Abdullah Caroline Chia Lee Min Kok Annabeth Leow SINGAPORE - Services on the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) were temporarily suspended at noon on Wednesday (Sept 28) as engineers carried out "urgent inspections" following a track fault that crippled 15 trains the night before. Bus services along the route are now running free of charge. Service along the inner loop resumed at 1.20pm, according to rail operator SMRT, with four trains in operation. Inspections are still ongoing. SMRT said that trains' current collector devices were damaged on Tuesday evening after moving over a damaged rail joint. It added that engineering staff had worked through the night to assess and rectify the fault. Although trains started running at 6.40am on Wednesday, a power trip occurred less than four hours later, with preliminary findings suggesting that the damage to the train cars might have affected other parts of the track. continue reading here : http://www.straitstimes.com/singapor...to-power-fault Clap clap clap well done SMRT . You never seemed to fail to amaze me. Can the commuters sue SMRT ? Will Desmond Kuek nd his management team be sacked ?
