Used to bring my lappy (work and sbf) in my forays to hatyai before tiger gave up on us awhile back. Mostly stayed at New Seasons (free lLAN), never had problems. Can't say same for less reputable lodgings. If you are unduly worried, maybe leave it with counter (sign for it?).
